DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will hold its annual Alumni Day activities on Saturday, Feb. 4, when the Huskies host Eastern Michigan at 3:30 p.m. Along with honoring all alumni in attendance, NIU will also recognize the family of NIU Hall of Famer John McDougal, the winningest coach in the history of Huskie men's basketball, during the contest against the Eagles.
McDougal, who
passed away in October at the age of 92, led the Huskies for 10 seasons from 1976-86, guiding NIU to its first NCAA Tournament berth in 1982. In his 10 season as head coach of the Huskies, McDougal posted a record of 136-141, he mentored five honorable mention All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans, two MAC Players of the Year, 11 All-MAC honorees and six members of the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame.
The men's basketball Alumni Day activities will be held in conjunction with the NIU Alumni Association's
Alumni Day at NIU Basketball. Huskie men's basketball alums will be invited to join the current team pregame, will be honored in a ceremony at halftime and will be invited to gather with the NIU coaching staff for a postgame reception.
