CLEVELAND - The NIU women's basketball team placed a program record six student-athletes on the Mid-American Conference's All-Academic Team, the most in the conference this season. All six of the Huskies honorees sport grade point averages above 3.5, led by Mikayla Voigt, who is just one of just six players in the MAC with a perfect GPA.

This is the second honor for Georgia Breunig, Cassidy Glenn and Kelly Smith while Renee Sladek, Voigt and Courtney Woods are receiving their first honor.

"Our players have a clear understanding of our expectations as a program on and off the court and they do a great job of exceeding those expectations. I think it speaks volumes to the emphasis we put on the academic development of our players," said Head Coach Lisa Carlsen.

Voigt, a nursing major with a flawless GPA, averaged 11.5 points with 33 starts for the Huskies. She finished tied for second in the MAC in free throw percentage with Woods, sporting an 89.2 percent average while dishing 2.8 assists per game. The Slinger, Wis., native is NIU's career leader at the charity stripe with a clip of 85.5 percent.

An accountancy major, Breunig boasts a 3.951-grade point average and made 17 appearances this season. The junior contributed a three-pointer at eventually nationally ranked Drake and made nine appearances during MAC play. She also played in the quarterfinals and the semifinals of the MAC Tournament.

Amongst the top-20 scorers in the MAC, Glenn started 32 times for NIU and played in all 33 games, scoring 14.1 points per game. She also averaged 7.4 rebounds, the eighth-most in the conference. Glenn is concentrating in pre-physical therapy and will graduate from Northern Illinois University this spring.

Sladek returned to the Huskies' lineup this season after missing 2015-16 recovering from surgery. The Merrill, Wis., native averaged 4.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 32 games, closing the MAC Tournament a 10-point average in three outings, helping rally NIU from a 22-point deficit against Ohio with an 11-point afternoon. Sladek is majoring in communicative disorders and boasts a 3.833 GPA.

The program's final repeat award winner, Smith owns a 3.764 in biological sciences. After registering a double-double versus South Dakota State in the WNIT First Round (19 points, 10 rebounds), Smith was the MAC's Female Scholar Athlete of the Week. The Hartland, Wis., native finished the season averaging 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 28 games.

Woods, who became just the sixth player in Mid-American Conference history to knock down at least 100 three-pointers in a season, owns a 3.674 GPA in pre-physical therapy and averaged 16.6 points in 33 starts. Pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game as well, the sophomore was seventh in the MAC in scoring and second in free throw percentage (89.2).

The Huskies finished 21-12 in 2016-17 with a 12-6 record in conference, setting a new program record for MAC victories. NIU advanced to the MAC Championship, falling to Toledo, 82-71, before closing the season in the WNIT at South Dakota State, 94-84. The Huskies also led the conference in scoring and rebounding this season.
