Women's Track and Field | January 27
IOWA CITY, Iowa – For the third time this season, Northern Illinois University track & field junior
Jehvania Whyte (Kingston, Jamaica/Vere Technical) broke her own triple jump school record, bettering her previous best to 12.57 meters at the Black & Gold Premier hosted by Iowa on Saturday.
"This group of athletes are warriors," said NIU Director of Track & Field
Connie Teaberry. "Each weekend they have impressed me with how they are willing to go to the well to get their performances. No apprehension. We still have work to put in before we are [Mid-American Conference Championship] ready, but each weekend we get closer and closer. This may be a young group, but they are talented and competitive. The leadership they have in Kedisha, Lorena, Remy, and Jehvania pulls the other athletes in the right direction, one leading to success!"
The Huskies won four events for the afternoon with wins from senior
Doshawn Franks (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) in the 600-meter run (1:34.79), freshman
Mackenzie Callahan (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) in the 800-meter run (2:17.04), sophomore
Remy Amarteifio (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.51) and senior
Chennel Palmer (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew) in the high jump (1.68 meter, 5' 6.00").
Seniors
Lorena Martin (Salamanca, Spain/IFS Fray Luis de Leon) and
Kedisha Dallas (Ocho Rios, Jamaica/GC Foster) had phenomenal races with three second-place finishes between the two Huskie leaders. Martin took second to Franks in the 600-meter race (1:35.26) and earned her second second-place finish in the 3,000-meter race (10:28.71). Dallas finished the 200-meter race in 24.55 to take second."
