Women's Track and Field | February 10

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Northern Illinois University track & field team returns with a third-place finish from the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday.
 
"Today, we had over half the athletes that traveled either PR, improve their MAC standing, or automatically qualify for the MAC Championships," said NIU Director of Track & Field Connie Teaberry. "This made the competition worth the travel. The staff saw determination, focus, and most of all heart. We will use the next two weeks to nurse our injuries and make small adjustments. We have one competition left to build on today's success and the athletes feel the urgency and are performing."
 
Many of the Huskies had big turnouts in today's competition including personal records from senior Lorena Martin (Salamanca, Spain/IFS Fray Luis de Leon) in the 800-meter run in 2:10.98 after just breaking it last weekend, and Doshawn Franks in the 600-meter run finishing second with a time of 1:33.68.
 
Distance runners Ericka Hibser (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) and Ashley Tutt (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) ran Mid-American Conference Championship qualifying times in the 3,000-meter and 5,000 meter runs, respectively, while Martin bettered her qualifying time.
 
The weekend's accomplishments show how hard the Huskies are fighting to get to the conference championship hosted by Bowling Green in two weeks. With a little glimpse at some of the MAC teams on Friday, the Huskies are ready to keep pushing to make themselves better.
