Champaign, Ill. – Northern Illinois University track & field junior bettered her outdoor season triple jump school record, on Saturday, at the Illinois Twilight with a final mark of 12.98 meters (42' 7.00") to earn first place in the event.
"The coaching staff is very proud of how the ladies mentally prepared and competed, today. With high winds, cooler temperatures, and some rain at the end, it did not deter our team from setting multiple personal and seasonal bests. This is a great sign of our team's continued growth. With such a young team, this is a very exciting time to be a Huskie on the track. These ladies are starting to see how great they can be, and there is no limit to what they can achieve."
Whyte's triple jump was one of eight personal bests set by the Huskies over the course of the afternoon. Sophomore
Remy Amarteifio (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) ran her career-fastest times in the 100-meter dash (12.20) and the 100-meter hurdles (13.67). Amarteifio won the 100-meters hurdles and too. fourth in the dash.
The final five Huskies to record their best performances were sophomore
NeShay Curtis (St. Louis, Mo./McCluer South Berkeley) in the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Melissa Ricci (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) in the 800-meter run, freshman
Kenyae Majors (Burlington, N.C./Hugh Cummings) in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman
Kishona McCray (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) in the 400-meter hurdles as well as senior
Ashley Sicard (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) in the shot put.
The afternoon also added two season-best marks from Sicard and fellow senior
