Eugene German to Return to NIU

Huskie junior-to-be withdraws from NBA Draft

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University men's basketball sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft and will return to NIU for his junior season in 2018-19.

"Going through this process has been a great learning experience and I am thankful for having had the opportunity to do it," said German. "My full focus now is to work and improve with my teammates this summer, to have the best season we can possibly have next year."

"We are happy that Eugene has made the decision to return to NIU," said NIU head coach Mark Montgomery. "After carefully considering his options, he made the decision he thinks is best for his future. We look forward to being a part of Eugene's continued development as a player and as a leader."

During the 2017-18 season, German led the Mid-American Conference in scoring as he averaging 20.6 points per game. An All-MAC Second Team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 14 First Team selection, German scored in double figures in all 32 games of his sophomore campaign, including 18 games of 20-or-more points.

The Gary, Ind., native scored 659 points this past season, the third-most in a single season in NIU history. He shot 77.1 percent from the free-throw line, 12th-best in the MAC, and made 1.9 three-pointers per contest, 13th in the conference. In his two seasons as a Huskie, German has played in 63 games, including 38 starts, scoring 938 points with 164 rebounds.
