DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team continued its undefeated start to the spring by sweeping Southeast Missouri on Friday afternoon at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill.

The Huskies (6-0) posted their first sweep of the spring, defeating the Redhawks 7-0 by winning the doubles point and each of the six singles matches. The win marked NIU's first 7-0 win since February 22, 2013 when the Huskies swept Chicago State.

NIU senior Nelle Youel continued her undefeated start to the spring, improving to 12-0 after picking up wins in the No. 1 singles and doubles matches.

Despite the impressive victory, NIU head coach Tanya Gombera sees room for improvement from her team, especially in doubles.

"Today was a good win for the team, although we started off slow in doubles. Luckily we recovered and managed to take the doubles point and played much better in singles," Gombera said. "I hope we can have a better start to our match tomorrow."

Off to its best start in more than a decade, the Huskies have two more home matches this weekend at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford. NIU will face Valparaiso on Saturday and Chicago State on Sunday, with both matches starting at 2 p.m. CT.
