Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) has been named to the watch list for the 2019 Cheryl Miller Award, announced on Wednesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The award, named after three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller, recognizes the top small forwards in NCAA Division I women's college basketball.
Woods led the Mid-American Conference in scoring last season at 22.1 points per game, which earned her a spot on the All-MAC First Team. It was the third-best points per game average in a single season in NIU women's basketball history. Woods had six 30-point games in the 2017-18 season, including a pair of career-high 39-point efforts against Western Illinois and Kent State.
The senior scored her 1,000
th career point at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 6, 2017 and is currently tied for 10
th on the Huskies' career scoring chart with 1,520 career points. She is also second all-time at NIU in three-pointers made with 244. Woods was named MAC West Player of the Week four times last season, and also earned Academic All-MAC accolades.
The Huskies host St. Francis [Ill.] for an exhibition at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., and open the regular season against Yale in the Preseason WNIT on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. NIU women's basketball season tickets begin at just $35 for general admission seating. Fans can pick any five games from: St. Francis [Ill.] (Nov. 3), Yale (Nov. 6), North Dakota State (Nov. 28), Eastern Illinois (Dec. 17), Chicago State (Dec. 21), and Brown (Dec. 31).
