PLAYERS
Andrea Lee, Stanford – T-6th place following the second round
Â
Thoughts on her second round of play
"I put a solid round together today. It was tough conditions out there. It was very windy but I stayed very patient. It was an up and down day. I had six birdies and five bogies but I held it together. And I am pretty proud of myself."
Â
Thoughts on how yesterday's cancellation helped in today's round
"You just have to have a strong mental game out there. They are obviously tough conditions and it's been the hardest rounds of golf I think any of us have ever played. I think we learned a lot from that first round experience. To take a day off was kind of frustrating, but a blessing at the same time. It was a chance to rest up, really get ready for the next day and today I played well."
Â
Jennifer Kupcho, Wake Forest – 1st place following this morning's round
Â
Thoughts on her second round of play
"Today was really good. I was hitting the ball really well. It started getting really windy so it definitely started getting a little tougher the last six holes but I held it together. My coach and my assistant coach supported me when I was making bogies.
Â
"The course played way easier today just because there was no rain. It's always going to be windy out here so you kind of come into it just expecting that."
Â
Thoughts on playing tomorrow's round
"My game plan going into tomorrow is to just play the course and play the way I play. I'm playing good against the rest of the field, but I want to just focus on what I can do to get the best score and get as close as I can to hopefully winning."
Â
Thoughts on if she looks at the leaderboard during her round
"I pay attention to the leaderboard but it doesn't really influence me. I just go play my own game. There's nothing I can do about everyone else. I just have to go play what I got to do."
Â
Monica Vaughn, Arizona State – T-3rd place following the second round
Â
Thoughts on her second round performance
"The biggest thing was the weather. The first day was just a battle with the weather. Today I got off to a really good start. I had all pars and birdies on the front nine, and then just had a little slip up on the par three third-hole on the back nine. I played really solid golf; I just knew that pars would be a good score out here."
Â
Thoughts on playing tomorrow's round
"I think I just need to keep doing what I'm doing. I've had a good attitude; control what I can. [I had] a couple of missed putts out there. I'll work on my putting a little bit. I'm hitting the ball great. I'm doing everything that I can and everything that I know how, so just keep playing like I have been and I think I'll have a good chance."
Â
Ainhoa Olarra, South Carolina – T-3rd place following the second round
Â
Thoughts on her second round performance
"I was actually nervous this morning because some of the holes are pretty long and with this wind it would make it harder. But I played good, my putter was the key today, I putted very good. I made one from the outside on 17, the key was the putter today."
Â
Thoughts on the difference from Friday
"Friday was windy with rain and we were so wet after six holes, we were freezing for 15 holes. I knew that everyone would have to deal with this wind, so you just have to keep playing."
Â
Thoughts on playing tomorrow's round
"I am more concerned about the team. I didn't have time to check the leaderboard, so I just hope that with my score today I can help my team be in position to make the cut (to the top eight). That is my mindset right now."
August Kim, Purdue – 2nd place following today's round
Â
Thoughts on her second round performance
"It was an interesting round, lots of ups and downs. I started with a double, which was not good. I missed a short putt right off the bat, and like I said yesterday, I just tried to stay calm. I knew I had 17 more holes. I made a couple birdies, which was good. I played pretty steady until eight. I had a jank drive, but it's fine. I made a bogey, but I'm happy with that.
Â
"Seven, eight and nine are some tough finishing holes. I just tried to stay calm. Coach was with me for the last couple holes, so that was really good."
Â
Thoughts on playing tomorrow's round
"I think I'm going to try and come out with a more aggressive mindset tomorrow. Only one more round, only one more shot on each whole. I just want to do my best.
Â
Dylan Kim, Baylor – T-8th place following today's round
Â
Thoughts on her second round performance
"I holed out for eagle, so that was really fun. The temperature just dropped (like) 10 degrees in the last hour. I struggled a little bit through that, but I kept my head up and I'm really proud of that."
Â
Thoughts on Eagle on hole 12
"I didn't actually see it because it was a blind shot. I hit three-wood off that tee (actually). I just hit a perfect shot. It was actually an uncomfortable yardage for me, and I normally don't love that shot, but I actually managed to hit really, really well. It was perfect. Everyone was waving at me [saying that it went in]. It was fun, it was really nice."
Â
Thoughts on what will be the difference tomorrow
"Just keep my head up. This is a tough golf course, tough conditions. Not really change anything, I'm happy with the way I played today, try to move past the bogies and minimize those mistakes."
Â
COACHES
Emily Flecther, Northwestern Head Coach – Team is in first place after second round
Â
Thoughts on her second round performance
"It was just as hard today. The conditions were really challenging and the winds were up. It was kind of swirling today; it wasn't constantly blowing in one direction which made it really hard for the girls to make some choices and judgements out there. Overall, I thought we did a terrific job.
Â
"I was really proud of the way our kids came out of the box on the back nine and played really solid. We played a good round of golf. We can't be discouraged, this is a big golf course. There are a lot of holes where you just can't let up. You have to play it a shot at a time. We made some mistakes out there. There were some things that got away from us, that we could control, that we need to do better tomorrow. I think our kids are aware of that. We have to take the good with the bad and we did so much good out there today."
Â
Thoughts on the team's mentality as the leader
"The thing we talked about last night is that there are 22 other teams pointing to Kent State and Northwestern and saying they are coming to get us. I just reminded our kids that this is a big golf course and you have to focus. Last night we said it was time to acknowledge that we did some good things out there but we have to turn the page and move on to our next round. Our girls do a good job with that."Â
Therese Hession, Ohio State Head Coach – Team is in fourth place after second round
Â
Thoughts on her team's second round performance
"I think we stayed pretty even keeled again. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start, then made some birdies and got back going again and played pretty solid Big Ten golf. We left a few out there, but we played pretty solid too. I think we're one shot out of the low round of the day, so far so it can't be too bad."
Â
Thoughts on what will be the difference tomorrow
"We definitely need another solid day. Northwestern's a really good team and I don't know that, unless they fall back, anyone's going to catch them. Our main thing is to get one of those spots in the top eight to have a chance. We'll hopefully put another solid effort together and grab one of those spots."
Â
Thoughts on what the difference was between today and Friday's round
"Without the rain, that helped a lot. I don't think it was near as windy either, think those gusts [Friday] got up to 35 miles per hour. It was more manageable and that's why I felt we could've gone lower. I think they did a good job of setting it [the golf] up to be a fair test and not kill everybody."
Â
Jay Goble, Baylor Head Coach – Team is in fifth place after second round
Â
Thoughts on his team's second round performance
"This afternoon was the tougher wave. Going forward, we just have to continue to play our game. We have a great team, and we're through two rounds. We have a very solid start and we're right in the hunt. We just have to come out tomorrow and play golf like we know how to play golf."
Â
Thoughts on what the difference was between today and Friday's round
"The conditions [even though it's cold] are a little bit better than playing in the rain. They [the team] played great. It's hard to go low out here and they just fought for every shot."
