Final Stats |  Notes

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Northern Illinois' defense limited Western Michigan to 16 points but the Broncos defense was even stronger in a 16-14 Bronco victory Saturday afternoon. WMU's defense limited NIU to 157 yards of total offense and held Garrett Wolfe to a season-low output. The Huskie defense held the Broncos to one touchdown and 380 yards despite being on the field for 38:28.

The Huskies jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead when Greg Turner blocked a punt that was recovered by Jarret Carter in the end zone.

After a second quarter Western Michigan field goal cut the deficit to 7-3, Ryan Cubit found Matt Stevens for a two-yard touchdown pass that put the Broncos ahead 10-7.

WMU extended its lead to 16-7 behind the second Nate Meier field goal of the second half with 3:25 remaining in the game.

NIU quickly responded with an eight-play, 80-yard drive capped by Phil Horvath's 31-yard touchdown strike to Britt Davis that cut the lead to 16-14. The Huskie rally ended on the ensuing kickoff when the onside attempt was recovered by the Broncos.

The loss ended the Huskies' four-game win streak and puts their season mark at 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the MAC. WMU improved to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in league play. NIU returns to action next Saturday with its homecoming game against Temple in the first of two consecutive non-conference games.
