Nick Hall Signs With Philadelphia Phillies Organization

June 9, 2006

DeKALB, IL - Former Northern Illinois University pitcher Nick Hall (Crystal Lake/Prairie Ridge) signed a professional baseball contract Thursday with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. The righthander became the 12th Huskie player to sign professionally since 2003, marking the fourth consecutive year that at least one NIU player has begun his pro career with a Major League organization.

"I went to Philadelphia for a invitation only workout with the Phillies over the weekend and I talked to six teams before the draft but was disappointed when my name was not called," said Hall. "On Thursday the Phillies called and I was so excited by the news that I could barely write down the details. I am very excited and eager to begin my pro career and represent NIU."

Hall, who completed his NIU career tied for the school's all-time lead with 47 starts and second in innings pitched with 280.1, will report June 12 to Clearwater, FL, home of the Phillies spring training complex. After workouts and evaluations, Hall will either be assigned to the Phillies rookie league affiliate in Clearwater or to their Class A team in Batavia, NY.

"Playing at NIU the last four years has been a real blessing," said Hall. "I've enjoyed each of the players and coaches there and cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for me."

Hall won 14 games during his Huskie career and notched three complete games. During his senior campaign in 2006, Hall tossed a four-hit shutout on March 4 at Southern Illinois to snap the Salukis' nine-game win streak and earn MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors.
