DeKalb, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to DePaul Sunday afternoon at the Huskie Soccer Field. Karen Enockson (St. Charles, Ill./East) notched her third goal in the past two games and Sara McClard (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tallied her first collegiate score to account for the Huskie goals.
"I thought we had a great second half effort after being a bit sluggish in the first," said assistant coach Paul Jobson. "We had some great chances and you've got to credit DePaul's goalkeeper for some great saves. Karen played very well again and has been consistent all year. I thought today our backs played well defensively, especially in the second half."
Enockson's goal opened the scoring at 5:45 with an unassisted tally from 20 yards left of center. DePaul countered with goals at 22:29 by Lauren Spacht and 33:42 by Stephanie Foley for a 2-1 lead.
NIU tied the game at two when McClard scored off a rebound at 43:52. Less than 30 seconds later, the Blue Demons regained the lead at 3-2 when Kelly DeBaene scored on a long 30-yard shot.
The Huskies now stand at 1-3-2 on the season while DePaul improves to 3-2-1. NIU's next match is Friday, September 15 at Northwestern, a game that marks the end of the non-conference schedule.
