DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois (8-7) hosts the Ohio Bobcats (9-7) this weekend at Ralph McKinzie Field in the Huskies' home opener and the MAC opening series for both squads.
NIU enters the weekend swinging hot bats having scored 101 runs over its past nine games while winning three of the last four outings. Led by the reigning MAC West Player of the Week Jesse Seykora, the Huskies are hitting .310 as a team.
Seykora leads the team with a .458 average, 6 home runs and 23 RBI while slugging .864 on the season and carries a 12-game hit streak into the weekend series. Newcomer Danny Reed has an 11-game hitting streak of his own while hitting .409 on the season.
The Huskies won two of three from the Bobcats last season in Athens. NIU dropped a two-run decision in the opening game of the series before exploding for 35 hits in 14-10 and 10-7 victories while racking up 50 hits on the weekend.
Ohio leads the all-time series 20-10 while NIU holds a 2-1 advantage under Ed Mathey.
