NIU Women's Tennis Beaten By Eastern Michigan, 7-0

April 6, 2007

Ypsilanti, Mich. - NIU was unable to get their first Mid-American Conference win in their match against Eastern Michigan, losing by a score of 7-0.

As always, the Huskies were really focusing on getting the doubles point. However, they were unsuccessful in doing so as Dora Delgadillo and Jenny Edner picked up the only win for NIU by beating Emma Czarnecki and Joanna Woo, 8-2, at number three doubles.

Without the doubles point in hand, the Huskies needed to win four singles matches to get the win, but they were also unable to achieve that.

With the loss, the Huskies are now 4-7 on the season, 0-3 in the MAC. The victory for the EMU improves their record to 9-8, 2-2 in the MAC.

Even though his team lost, NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell was encouraged by his team's performance.

"The thing that I liked the most about today is that it's finally starting to come together," Ferrell said. "I'm starting to see the attitude that I want, the intensity that I want, and the athleticism that I want. I'm seeing nothing but good things on the horizon for us, even though we lost. We played against a team that plays exactly like us, they are just better at it than we are right now."

The Huskies will finish their weekend road trip tomorrow against Toledo (12-3, 3-0) at 1pm.
