DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois first baseman Scott Simon was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the league. A native of Algonquin, Ill., Simon concluded his decorated career with his second All-MAC Academic honor at NIU.
Simon carried a 3.38 grade-point average and graduated in May with a degree in Sociology. He is also pursuing a pilot's license while aspiring to be a commercial pilot after the conclusion of his baseball career.
At the MAC Tournament in May, Simon became the conference's all-time hit king and concluded his collegiate career with 318 hits while setting school marks for hits, doubles, games played, at-bats and RBI.
During the 2007 campaign Simon led the Huskies with 73 hits while batting .329 with 15 doubles, three home runs and 37 RBI and served as a team captain. He was one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, presented to the nation's top baseball student-athlete, and entered 2007 on the preseason watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award (National Player of the Year) for the second consecutive season.
Simon also earned Academic All-MAC honors following the 2004 campaign.
