CLEVELAND, Ohio - The members of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) have announced their officers for 2008-2009, and the roster includes Tim McMurray, Northern Illinois University's senior associate athletics director - development, as First Vice President of the organization.
In his third year with Northern Illinois University and fourth year on the NAADD Executive Committee, McMurray has direct oversight over all Huskie athletic development operations, with a specific emphasis on major gifts. Additionally, he supervises the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund staff of eight, has oversight of men's and women's golf, and is the senior gift officer and athletic liaison with the NIU Foundation.
During his first two years, the $14-million Yordon Academic and Athletic Performance Center was completed, including the largest private gift to athletics in the institution's history. Additionally, there was a complete restructuring of the entire athletic development operation. The Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund surpassed the $ 1-million mark for the first time in school history, and the HASF annual budget was streamlined to provide the department's sport programs with high water marks in operating dollars.
"It is a tremendous honor to represent Northern Illinois University on a national stage, while also giving back to our profession that has given so much to me and my family," McMurray said. "In my years of direct involvement with NAADD, it has been extremely gratifying to watch the record levels of interest and participation in athletics development and intercollegiate athletics overall. Hopefully, our service on the executive committee has contributed to this momentum."
Elected to serve as president of NAADD for 2008-2009 was Matt Donovan, associate director of athletics for development at the University of Indianapolis. Also elected to serve as officers for the 2008-09 were - 2nd Vice President - Jim Paquette, associate athletics director for development at Boston College; and 3rd Vice President - Marija Pientka, associate athletics director/development at the University of Wisconsin.
New members to the executive committee include Dan Cloran, executive director, All for One Club at Xavier University; Kay Hargrave, associate athletics director, development at Auburn University; and Phillip McAlpin, assistant athletic director, development at North Carolina A&T State University.
They join current Executive Committee members Whit Babcock, senior associate athletics director, University of Missouri; Julie Hall, assistant athletics director, University of California Riverside; Stephen Ponder, senior associate athletics director at Arizona State University; Jim Senter, associate athletics director development at the University of Colorado; and Dennis Young, associate athletics director at East Carolina University.
Following his term as First Vice President, McMurray is slated to take office as president in the summer of 2009.
NAADD is the first organization of its kind to provide educational opportunities, enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics, and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics development and fund raising.
