MACOMB, Ill. - Northern Illinois and Western Illinois played to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon after heavy rains soaked the field resulting in sloppy conditions. The Huskies' had their third consecutive tie and ended the weekend with a 3-0-3 mark.

After Western Illinois struck early with a goal by Caitlin Bennett just 2:16 into the contest, NIU knotted the game in the 78th minute. Becca Ford (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) scored from 18 yards out at 78:12 to even the game and send it to overtime.

In the two extra sessions, NIU recorded two of the three shots and the only shot on goal. The Huskies dominated statistically, outshooting the Westerwinds 18-5 overall and leading 6-3 in shots on goal.

"It was an ugly game played on a very wet field and it had a big influence of the game," said head coach Carrie Barker. "We didn't adjust and Western Illinois scored early, but we came back and evened it up. The field was a huge factor and aside from the first four minutes we played very well."

Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and Audrey Holmer (Elmhurst, Ill./York) split time in goal for the Huskies.

NIU returns to action Friday with a home match at 4 p.m. again Southeast Missouri.
