OXFORD, Ohio - The Northern Illinois women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Mid-American Conference competition Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon at the Miami Soccer Field in Oxford, Ohio.

In a hard fought battle against the Redhawks, the Huskies recorded seven shot attempts and two cornerkicks, but were unable to score on any of the opportunities. Kelly Mullany led the Huskies with two shots and one shot on goal in the contest.

Lisa Maier (Orland Park, IL/Sandburg), Kelsey Passaglia (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove), Nici Newquist (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore H.S.), Mo Smunt (St. Charles, IL/East) and Sara McClard (Mokena, IL/Lincoln-Way East) all recorded shots in the contest. Defensively, NIU goalkeeper Lindsey (Batavia, IL/Batavia) recorded two saves for the Huskies.

After holding the Redhawks to a scoreless first half, Miami was able to notch its first goal after a penalty kick from Kersta Carlson in the 47th minute of play gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead.

Miami's second goal came at the 78:16 mark when Allison Berkey snuck the ball past Curnock to give Miami a 2-0 advantage. Jodi Zwingelberg assisted Berkey in the goal.

"We played Miami tough today," head women's soccer coach Carrie Barker. "We dug ourselves in a hole when we gave up a PK just two minutes into the second half. I am proud of how the girls played today, even though the ball didn't bounce our way."

NIU (5-11-2, 1-7-2 MAC) will head into its final game of the season Thursday, when the Huskies travel to Western Michigan for a 1 p.m. contest.
