The Northern Illinois women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Kent State Friday, after a goal in double overtime propelled the Golden Flashes to victory over the Huskies (4-7-2, 0-3-2 MAC ) at the Kent State Soccer Field.
The Huskies gained an early lead over Kent State when Nici Newquist passed the ball to Kelsey Passaglia who battled past defenders to face goalkeeper Kelly Sherwood head on. Passaglia was able to kick the ball past the goalkeeper to hit the far left of the net, bringing the Huskies to a 1-0 lead.

Kent State was able to tie the game at the 89:21 mark, when KSU's Beth Diederich was able to slip a header past Curnock off a free kick from Annie Messer to tie the game.
"Today was a tough loss," head coach Carrie Barker said. "We were 40 seconds away from getting a victory on the road. On the bright side, we still have six games left and we are going to take one game at a time. The next game we are going to focus on is Buffalo."
The Huskies battled through overtime with their best chance at scoring coming in the 95th minute of play when Passaglia recorded a shot that was saved by Sherwood. Playing into double overtime, the Huskies fell to Kent State when Vanessa Salerno snuck the ball past Curnock to record the win. Catharine Marosszeky knocked the ball into the box off a cornerkick from Messer, setting Salerno up for the shot.
In the contest, NIU recorded six cornerkicks to KSU's four, while Curnock posted ten saves in the contest, to Sherwood's three.
The Huskies will continue action on the road as they take on Buffalo, Sunday, for an 11 a.m. match-up.
