ROCKFORD, Ill. - Freshman Emily Rogers recorded another standout performance, leading the Northern Illinois women's tennis team to a come-from-behind 5-2 win over visiting Bradley at Clocktower Resort Friday afternoon.
Rogers teamed up with sophomore Kathryn Friedlund to post NIU's lone doubles win of the day at the No. 2 position, and also recorded a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, her fourth-consecutive singles triumph. Rogers' win was one of five singles victories for the Huskies on the day.
Bradley started the match by picking up the decisive doubles point, posting pro-set wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Brooke Forsberg and Nao Umemura, playing No. 1 doubles, along with Lilian Asuaje and Martina Schnaap, teaming up at No. 3, both dropped 8-3 decisions.
Bradley's Nicole Miller posted a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Asuaje at No. 1 singles, but that would be the Huskies' lone singles setback. Friedlund (No. 2), Rogers (No. 5) and Forsberg (No. 6) all recorded straight-set wins, while Schnaap (No. 3) and Umemura (No. 4) both grinded out victories in three sets.
The Huskies will travel to Daytona, Fla., for their 2009 spring trip. NIU will face Seton Hall (March 11), Stetson (March 12) and Embry-Riddle (March 13).
