CHICAGO - The No.3 doubles tandem of Brooke Forsberg and Sara McLaughlin battled their counterparts from DePaul to a hard-fought 8-5 loss, but the Northern Illinois women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision versus the host Blue Demons at the Lakeshore Athletics Club Friday afternoon.

The Huskies dropped all three doubles matches in regulation pro-set decisions. Lilian Asuaje and Kathryn Friedlund fell by a count of 8-2; Martina Schnapp and Emily Rogers dropped an 8-1 decision, followed by Forsberg and McLaughlin's 8-5 setback, in which they initially trailed, 5-0.

"Today was a rough day for us, but we lost to a very good team in DePaul," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "They have no holes, and are definitely a better team than their No. 41 ranking indicates. I think they have really put themselves in a position to garner at at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.

"We competed well, and saw some bright spots with Kathryn Friedlund battling in singles, and our No. 3 doubles team making a nice comeback. As always, these types of non-conference matches will continue to prepare us for our conference schedule down the stretch. I told the girls after the match that the ball will appear that much bigger when we head to Toledo next week because of this experience."

DePaul won all six singles matches in straight-sets. Asuaje dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 1, followed by Friedlund's 6-2, 6-3 setback at the second singles position. Schnapp fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3; while Rogers, playing No. 4, fell by a count of 6-2, 6-1.

Forsberg dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles, followed by McLaughlin's 6-0, 6-0 loss at the sixth and final singles flight.

The order of finish in the match went 1, 2 and 3 in doubles, followed by a 4, 5, 6, 1, 3, 2 tally in singles play.

NIU will be idle for the next week, before traveling to Toledo, Ohio, to take on the host Rockets April 17 beginning at noon. The Huskies will face Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., on April 18.
