DEKALB, Ill. - Freshman Emily Rogers posted her fifth-consecutive singles win, but the Northern Illinois women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at the hands of visiting Western Michigan Saturday afternoon at the Huskie Tennis Courts.

The Huskies dropped all three doubles matches by 8-2 pro-set counts. Brooke Forsberg and Martina Schnapp teamed at the No. 1 position, followed by Lilian Asuaje and Emily Rogers at No. 2. At the third doubles flight, Sara McLaughlin and Kathryn Friedlund represented the Huskies' duo. For Forsberg and Schnapp, it was just the second time the tandem had paired this season.

"We gave Western Michigan all they could handle today, but they are just better than us right now," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "I'm very pleased with our effort. We are young and a little immature, but the foundation continues to be laid to have success in the future. We just have to keep going in the right direction."

"We've got Western Illinois and 24th-ranked DePaul this week so these out of conference matches should be good measuring sticks for us."

Rogers was the lone Huskie to record a single-set win, in posting the 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 win over the Broncos' Maria Nivia. The match was finished in a super tie-breaker due to the team outcome already being decided. All other five singles contests were won in straight-sets by WMU, including 6-2, 6-2 victories in the top two flights. Freshman Sara McLaughlin stretched her No. 6 singles match to a tie-breaker in the second set, but eventually fell, 6-1, 7-6.

NIU will play its fourth consecutive MAC road match Saturday, when the Huskies travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to take on the host Bulls beginning at noon.
