DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois athletics department is expanding its social media presence by becoming a member of the Twitter social messaging utility. Fans can now "follow" the Huskies at Twitter.com/NIUAthletics.

NIU's Twitter page will be predominately used to continually spread news from NIUHuskies.com, and "Huskie Happenings," the official online blog of the Huskies. Fans will also have the opportunity to keep track of marketing events, along with events and messages disseminated through the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund (HASF) staff.

Every time a new story is posted on the front page of NIUHuskies.com, its link will appear on the Twitter site through an RSS feed. The daily contents on "Huskie Happenings" will also be included in NIU's "tweets."

Stay tuned to "Huskie Happenings" for further announcements regarding NIU's Twitter presence, and other social/new media additions to NIUHuskies.com.
