SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Northern Illinois University softball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Texas State in its second game of the CenturyLink Classic Friday night at Bobcat Field in San Marcos, Texas.

The Huskies (0-2), who opened the tournament earlier in the day with a 5-4 extra inning loss to Oklahoma State, played solid defense in their game with the host Bobcats, but the offense, which had been so effective in the first game of the day struggled to get going.

NIU's best scoring chance came in its final at bat. Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh, the Huskies had back-to-back one out singles to put runners at first and second. However a strike out and ground out ended the threat and the game for NIU.

Despite the outcome of Friday's games, NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard was pleased with the performance of her pitching staff.

"I thought the pitcher's did a good job today," Chouinard said. "There were a few mistakes made, but for the most part they did a really good job. They kept us in the game and kept their composure. For two freshmen and a sophomore, I thought it was a good day for us from the mound."

The three Huskie pitchers combined to allow eight runs, five earned, on 16 hits, while striking out seven batters in 13 and two-thirds innings.

The Huskies return to the diamond tomorrow morning when NIU takes on UT-Arlington in a doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 9:30 a.m. with Game 2 scheduled to start at noon. Fans can follow all the action live via Gametracker at www.NIUHuskies.com
