WATERLOO, Iowa - The Northern Illinois women's tennis team did not drop a single set in three-of its singles matches, and cruised to three more victories in doubles play, recording a convincing 7-0 win over South Dakota at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa Saturday afternoon. The Huskies have now captured four-straight dual match wins.

"We talked to the players before the match about backing up what was a great win for us last night against Northern Iowa," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "It's pretty easy, and sometimes human nature, to have a letdown after an emotional win like that.

"We want to play smart, solid tennis today, and take care of business. We did that, and secured ourselves a very productive weekend."

In doubles play, Brooke Forsberg and Emily Rogers teamed for an 8-0 blanking of Melanie Rockne and Brittney Smith at the top doubles position. At No. 2, Kathryn Friedlund and Sara McLaughlin posted an 8-5 win over USD's Marina Kiefer and Isabel Nunez, followed by an 8-1 victory by Stephanie Okuma and Kelly Phillips at the third doubles position.

The Huskies dominated in 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles slots. Rogers defeated Rockne at No. 2 singles, Fausett beat Zejnic at No. 3, and Phillips was matched up against Smith at fifth singles.

Friedlund, playing No. 1 singles, defeated Kiefer, 6-3, 6-3, followed by Sara McLaughlin's 6-3, 6-1 win over Nunez at No. 4. In the sixth singles position, Forsberg quickly beat Hagen, 6-0, 6-1.

Northern Illinois will continue on its road swing next Friday (March 5), taking on host Bradley in Peoria.
