DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University softball team dropped an 8-3 decision to Towson in its first game of the USF The Game Tournament hosted by the University of South Florida Friday.

NIU (4-13) jumped out to a 3-1 lead, scoring a run in each of the first three innings. Zoe Sinner (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) opened the scoring with an RBI double up the middle in the top of the first. The Tigers (13-4) answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. An RBI by Dani Parrish (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) in the second and RBI bunt single by Monica Segura (Santa Ana, Calif./Segerstrom Fundamental) in the third gave the Huskies the two-run advantage.

However, the Tigers put together a seven-run, six-hit fifth inning to take the 8-3 lead, scoring six of those runs with two outs. Segura took the loss, allowing six runs, three earned, pitching four and two third innings. Morgan Bittner (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), who came in to pitch in relief allowed two runs, all unearned in an inning and a third of relief.

The Huskies will face the host Bulls today at 3 p.m. Central.
