DEKALB, Ill. - Brett McWethy and Russell Houghtaling from Athletic Media Relations here. Now starts our blog for the 2010 Tailgate Showdown; we're west of Huskie Stadium, in the red and white tent. Come check us out and taste some great dishes! If not, just follow us, and we'll try to paint the picture!
2:05 p.m.
Jordan Lynch dashes seven yards into the end zone.
1:56 p.m.
Touchdown, red team! Harnish to Perez Ashford, 60 yards.
1:53 p.m.
We've got a break in the action ... Harnish has a team-high five completions.
1:45 p.m.
Touchdown red team! Grady to receiver Anthony Johnson down the right sideline!
1:41 p.m.
Chandler Harnish throws a 52-yard touchdown screen pass to running back Jasmin Hopkins!
1:33 p.m.
We've seen three quarterbacks so far, DeMarcus Grady, Jordan Lynch and Chandler Harnish. Lynch is 4-7 through the air, while Grady has thrown two picks, one off a batted ball at the line.
1:06 p.m.
Both the Cardinal and White teams are out on the Huskie Stadium field, running some drills and stretching. Word is, we'll start out with some individual workouts before the "scrimmage" begins. We'll be keeping stats up in the press box as well, and they will be included in the final recap. As soon as we have the winners of the Tailgate Showdown, we'll reveal those to you.
12:26 p.m.
Joe Summins needs to intercept our wireless card to take over to Mary M. Bell Field, so he can run live stats for the softball doubleheader. We'll continue the blog from Huskie Stadium today during the Spring Preview.
Also, don't forget the Grad Bash, beginning at 5 p.m., on the east side of Huskie Stadium, rounds out the day's events. It will feature music by "Mike and Joe" and refreshments from Chicago's own Goose Island Beer Co.
12:11 p.m.
Russ is out with the "Flip Cam" taking in the atmosphere, and getting some commentary from fans. We'll try to catch up with Associate V.P./Director of Athletics Jeff Compher for an exclusive interview. Sad to say, but not many of us are eating right now. We'll make one more stop at the Victor E. Tacos station, where we found our favorite dish last season!
12:00 p.m.
So Brett's back, along with Russ and Erin, with a chicken, rice and "summer dip" mix from Eduardo's in downtown DeKalb. The dip is used only in the summer, but we've got a sneak peak here at the Tailgate Showdown. The weather is clearing as we speak, don't forget we've got home softball (2 p.m.) and men's tennis today (1 p.m.), and the Spring Preview, with the NIU football team, starts at 1 p.m. at Huskie Stadium!
11:46 a.m.
Joe Summins just came back with some boneless wings from Upper Deck in downtown DeKalb. Erin Houghtaling from the SAASS went with the Bourbon Beans, and Russell Houghtaling brought back some wings, as well.
Don't forget we are stationed near two computers, where you can sign up to become a fan of "NIU Huskies" on Facebook! We've got our website and Twitter feeds set up through Facebook now, so you're always connected!
Also, keep in mind that 2010 Huskie football season tickets will be available for just $85 for five exciting games at Huskie Stadium, while faculty and staff, senior citizens and varsity club members can purchase season tickets for just $74 each.
11:40 a.m.
We've made two rounds already, and the rest of the crew (our entire media relations staff is now on hand) is out for round three! We started out with a Reuben Sandwich/Pasta Salad ensemble courtesy of the "Best Huskie Cook." Then, with a mozzarella/marinara slider from "Sweet Dreams."
