FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Northern Illinois men's soccer team concluded its preseason with a 2-1 win over IPFW, Friday night. The Huskies won all three of their exhibition contests by a combined score of 9-4.

NIU struck first off a free kick in the 26th minute. Junior Tim King headed the ball on frame where IPFW keeper Donovan Dowling made the save, but King pounced on the rebound to net his second goal of the exhibition season.

Less than four minutes later, the Huskies added a second tally. NIU got a three-on-two break and a pair of seniors connected for the score. Luis Mojica found Engebreth Faerden for a right-footed score just inside the box.

The Huskies were up 2-0 when they relinquished an own goal off a misdirected cross in the 35th minute. The miscue allowed the Mastodons to score despite being credited with no shots in the first half.

Northern Illinois outshot IPFW 8-0 in the first half, but the second period was much quieter. The Huskies and Mastodons each took three shots, but neither team scored.

The Huskies open the regular season Sept. 3 at No. 19 Portland. Northern Illinois' first home game is set for Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. against Oregon State.
