Remember Steve Simmons? The former Huskie men's soccer mentor, who led NIU to the 2005 MAC Championship, will be making his first return back to DeKalb when his Oregon State team takes on Northern Illinois today at 5 p.m., in its first match of the adidas Magnuson Inn Invitational at the Huskie Soccer & Track and Field Complex. Current NIU head coach Eric Luzzi will be looking for his second-straight victory over his former boss.

The Northern Illinois volleyball team will look to extend its best-ever start to a season this weekend, when the Huskies travel to Elon, N.C., for the Elon Classic. NIU will start things off with a 1 p.m. match with the hosts, followed by a 4:30 p.m. contest versus Liberty. The Huskies wrap things up Saturday morning, taking on Stetson for the first time in program history.

Not only is the tight end pumped up for his final home season-opener, but he's got an invested interest in tonight's DeKalb-Sycamore matchup under the lights at Huskie Stadium. Jay Taft of the Rockford Register Star caught up with head football coach Jerry Kill earlier this week, and the topic was the strength of NIU's offensive line. Kill was pleased with how his troops in the trenches performed at Iowa State, and hopes to see that trend continue Saturday vs. North Dakota.

The Northern Illinois football team opens the home protion of its 2010 slate when the Huskies welcome North Dakota to Huskie Stadium Saturday night at 6 p.m. Click here for complete details on the game. While the game will not be televised, fans can watch the game live via Huskie All-Access. Fans can also listen to the game live on 1360 AM WLBK, 1160 AM WYLL.
