KENT, Ohio - Northern Illinois University wrestling team suffered a 37-6 setback to the Kent State Golden Flashes at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center Friday night.
Senior Tristen DeShazer (Wichita, Kan./Wichita West) scored the lone victory for NIU (2-9, 0-3), pinning Sean Collins 28 seconds into the second period. Once again, the Huskies were on the short end of three matches that were decided by three points or less.
Matt Mougin (Columbus Junction, Iowa/Columbus) suffered a 7-4 loss at 165 and Dakota Greenhaw (Monett, Mo./Monett) fell, 4-1, at 285. Izzy Montemayor (Round Lake Heights, Ill./Grant Community) was edged out, 6-4 at 133.
"Tristen wrestled really tough tonight," said NIU head coach Dave Grant. "We had some key situations in matches we needed to win and we just failed do that. We have to understand when we're in important crucial situations and win those situations."
The Huskies return to the mat Friday night when Northern Illinois travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa to face the Panthers of Northern Iowa. First match begins at 7 p.m.
