SURPRISE, Ariz. - Northern Illinois had its streak of four straight games with 10 or more hits snapped by CSU Bakersfield starter Brandon Van Dam Sunday afternoon at Surprise Stadium Complex. The 6-1 win improved the Roadrunners to 11-2 while the Huskies dropped to 0-10.

The 6-7 righty hurled a complete-game six-hitter against the Huskies, extending CSUB's winning streak to 10. In earning the win, Van Dam (3-0) surrendered one earned run on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts. However, NIU managed to end Van Dam's 26-plus scoreless inning streak in the sixth with two outs on an RBI single by Alex Jones.

Jones led the NIU offense, going 3-for-4 with the lone RBI and a stolen base. Jordan Rishavy and Jamison Wells both extended their hitting streaks with a hit apiece. Rishavy's moved to six games while Wells' moved to five.

Gonzales took the loss (0-3) for the Huskies after giving up six earned runs on 11 hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five frames. CSUB scored in twos on the day, getting a pair each in the second, third and fifth innings.

Jeremy Rodriguez fronted the Roadrunner offense with a 3-for-4 day, including a home run.

For their outstanding performances over the weekend, Wells and Jeff Zimmerman were named to the Arizona State Coca-Cola Classic All-Tournament Team. Wells notched nine hits, five runs scored, four RBI and two steals in four games. Zimmerman, who also earned All-Tournament honors last weekend at Texas Tech, totaled six hits, two runs and an RBI for the Huskies.

NIU has one of only two weeks without a midweek game before welcoming Aurora to DeKalb for the home opener Sunday, March 13 at 1:05 p.m. (CT).
