DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's tennis team fell, 7-0, to Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon at the West Tennis Courts on the NIU campus. Prior to the match the Huskies honored their two seniors, Katie Friedlund and Martina Schnapp, playing their final home match at Northern Illinois.
"I want to thank my seniors, Katie (Friedlund) and Martina (Schnapp) for giving us everything that they had in their time at NIU," said head coach Ryun Ferrell. "I wish them both the best of luck in whatever they do, I know they will both be very successful, and I wish we could have sent them out on a winning note."
Friedlund and doubles partner Sara McLaughlin nearly won for the second-straight day at number one. The Huskie tandem played nearly even with Bowling Green's Christine Chiricosta and Maddy Eccleston, falling 9-7.
Eccleston also played senior day spoiler in singles as she defeated Schnapp, 6-1, 6-2, at number two. At fifth singles, Haley Dekkinga played a tight first set with Emily Reuland, falling 6-4, before Reuland took the second set, 6-2.
The Falcons won all six singles matches in straight-sets.
"Now we get ready to take on Ball State in the MAC Tournament, we will be the underdog but we are going to give it everything we have."
NIU will return to action against Ball State on Thursday, April 28 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Ypsilanti, Mich., hosted by Eastern Michigan.
