NIU Scholar-Athletes of the Week: Nov. 18-24

DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are football's Akeem Daniels and volleyball's Jenna Radtke.

Week's Achievements: Akeem Daniels scored a key touchdown to lift NIU to a 21-14 victory at Ohio last Tuesday night, hauling in a screen pass and scampering 32 yards for a score in the third quarter to give the Huskies the lead. In his best game during MAC play this season, the speedy veteran tallied a team-high 115 all-purpose yards, contributing as a rusher, receiver and returner while keeping the Huskies alive in the MAC West title race. Week's Achievements: In one of the most incredible MAC Tournament volleyball games in league history, Jenna Radtke did a little bit of everything in NIU's valiant comeback attempt during its semifinal matchup with Miami. Helping the Huskies storm back from a 2-0 set deficit before eventually dropping a dramatic and decisive fifth set, the sophomore middle blocker recorded nine kills with a .200 hitting percentage and added five blocks, three assists, two service aces and two digs.
