Dec. 8, 2014 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are football's Drew Hare and track & field's Sidra Sherrill.

Week's Achievements: Drew Hare was named the MVP of the MAC Football Championship Game after he led NIU's convincing 51-17 triumph over Bowling Green on Friday night at Ford Field. The sophomore quarterback recorded career highs in completions and attempts (29-for-49), throwing for 218 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for another touchdown and tallied 60 yards on the ground, leading the biggest offensive outburst and most lopsided victory in MAC Football Championship Game history. The NIU offense racked up 552 total yards and helped the Huskies clinch their third conference title in four years and fifth consecutive 11-win season.	Week's Achievements: Sidra Sherrill broke her personal record in the shot put as the NIU women's track & field team opened the season at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday evening. The senior thrower's effort of 49-00.25 (14.94m) topped her previous best in the shot put by almost two feet, and she finished second in the event, one of 12 top-five finishes the Huskies produced at the Notre Dame Invitational.
