DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team looks to remain undefeated when it welcomes Lindenwood to the Convocation Center as part of the FLIP-PIN event with the NIU wrestling team Friday night.

"There will be other stuff going on, but for us, it's part of the learning curve for the state meet, MAC and regionals," NIU head coach Sam Morreale said. "It's almost a circus-like atmosphere. Our sport is 99 percent focus and concentration. The more times you get exposed to it, the better they'll react to it.

"I think it's a great event for families and the average sports fan because you get to see two totally different sports and there's always something going on. It's a fun event."

The Huskies (2-0, 1-0) come into Friday night's meet following an historic 193.375-193.025 victory over Kent State last week in the conference opener. It was NIU's first win over the Golden Flashes in 16 years.

"For us it's all about taking it one step at a time," Morreale said. "I know that sounds like coach-speak, but that's what it is. If we do what we do in practice, execute and the kids attack throughout the meet, we'll be fine this week."

Senior Amanda Stepp and sophomore Megan Greenfield have led the way for the Huskies through the first two meets. Stepp took first place in the vault, beam and floor in the first meet at of the season and took first on the floor and second on the vault last week versus Kent State. Greenfield finished first on vault in each of the first two meets, including a season-best 9.850 against Kent State.

"Amanda, as a senior, is doing a great job," he said. "She's doing everything we're asking of her from a leadership standpoint and definitely getting the job done in competition. That shows just how good she is at the skill she's doing. For her, it's just a matter of going out and executing.

"Greeny was a little banged up last year, so to be out there consistently competing, she's only going to get better as the year goes on," Morreale said of Greenfield. "On the two events she's doing, she could set school records."

Lindenwood (0-2) comes into the Convocation Center looking to rebound from a 192.450-192.350 setback at Western Michigan last Friday. It was the Lions' best score of the season.

Competition begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Fans who cannot make it to the Convocation Center can follow the action live online via NIUHuskies.com. The event will be shown on NIUTube and there will also be live scoring. In addition, fans can follow all the action on Twitter via @NIUscores.com.
