DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are
Andrew Ness of football and
Amy Annala of women's soccer.
NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won once this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Andrew Ness helped the NIU football team produce another spectacular offensive display on Saturday in the Huskies’ 45-12 win at Miami. The senior center paved the way as the Huskies rushed for 311 yards on 37 carries for an 8.4 yard-per-carry average and five rushing touchdowns. Snapping to quarterback Drew Hare each play, Ness also assisted in keeping Hare on his feet for all but one of his drop-backs. For his efforts, Ness was selected by the NIU coaching staff as the team’s Offensive Player of the Week as well.

Week's Achievements:
Amy Annala recorded her first shutout of the season on Sunday, making eight saves over 110 minutes of action as the Huskies blanked MAC title chasing Miami on NIU women’s soccer Senior Day in a scoreless draw. The NIU sophomore goalkeeper made several impressive saves throughout the match and saved her best two stops for last, making consecutive fantastic saves in the second overtime to preserve a point for the Huskies. Annala also made nine saves during Friday night’s match against Ball State.
