DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Shane Wimann football and
Amy Annala of women's soccer.
NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won once this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Shane Wimann caught his third touchdown of the season on Saturday as the NIU football team used a 35-0 halftime lead to roll past Eastern Michigan on homecoming by a 49-21 final score. The redshirt sophomore tight end pulled in a four-yard score in the first quarter by quarterback Drew Hare, and Wimann also had another five-yard reception and a five-yard rush in the game to help the Huskies’ offense produce 591 total yards in the victory. |
Week's Achievements:
Amy Annala helped keep NIU in contention for a berth in the MAC Tournament by making 15 saves while allowing just one goal in 200 minutes of action over the weekend. The sophomore goalkeeper, who earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts, kept her second shutout of the season on Friday night to help the Huskies beat Bowling Green 2-0 with three saves before she made an incredible 12 saves with just one goal conceded to ensure NIU recorded a valuable point with a 1-1 tie at Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
