NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: Nov. 16-22

Nov. 23, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Cameron Clinton-Earl football and Alexis Gonzalez of volleyball.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won three times this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
When the NIU defense needed to make plays last Wednesday night against Western Michigan, Cameron Clinton-Earl and the Huskies came through, especially in the fourth-quarter. Clinton-Earl recorded his second sack of the season to force a Bronco punt that set up NIU’s crucial touchdown drive, and he also played a big role in the goal-line stand the Huskie defense made with less than three minutes to play and NIU protecting an eight-point advantage.

 Week's Achievements:
The senior leader of the NIU volleyball team, Alexis Gonzalez had her wonderful collegiate career end in the MAC Championship Game on Sunday night – but not after a fantastic senior season in which she led the Huskies to the MAC regular season title and within a game of the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, Gonzalez recorded 47 assists to help the Huskies beat Miami and put NIU in the MAC Volleyball Tournament Final. Gonzalez finished her career as a two-time First Team All-MAC selection and the second leading assist getter in NIU volleyball history.
