NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: Nov. 2-8

Nov. 9, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Ryan Graham of football and Mary Grace Kelly of volleyball.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won twice this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Ryan Graham was ready when his number was called on Tuesday night in front of a nationally televised audience. On the road against a ranked and undefeated Toledo, Graham entered the game to replace injured NIU quarterback Drew Hare, and the redshirt freshman proceeded to lead a fourth-quarter comeback as the Huskies topped Toledo 32-27 in a #MACtion thriller. Graham was 9-for-12 for 132 yards passing, added for 41 rushing yards and threw a key touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay with 9:32 left that earned the No. 1 play on ESPN’s SportsCenter that night.
 Week's Achievements:
Mary Grace Kelly helped the NIU volleyball team remain atop the MAC standings as the Huskies posted comfortable sweeps at home over Toledo and Ball State over the weekend. The junior outside hitter, who just recently returned to the NIU lineup from injury, downed 2.5 kills per set after recording eight kills against Toledo and seven versus Ball State. Kelly posted a hitting percentage of .271, while also adding four digs and a block to her game as her quality depth was a big reason why the Huskies handled the Rockets and Cardinals in straight sets.
