NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: Nov. 30-Dec. 6

Dec. 7, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Andrew Ness of football and Lorena Martin of track & field.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won four times this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Andrew Ness started in his fourth consecutive MAC Football Championship Game on Friday as the Huskies faced Bowling Green at Ford Field in Detroit. Also making his 55th consecutive start, dating back to the first game of his redshirt freshman season, Ness set the NIU all-time record for consecutive starts along with current fellow offensive lineman Aidan Conlon.
 Week's Achievements:
Lorena Martin finished second in the mile at Notre Dame’s Blue & Gold Invitational as the NIU track & field team opened its 2015-16 season. Martin also broke her own personal record in the event, bettering her previous top effort in the indoor mile by almost 10 seconds as she was one of seven Huskies to place in the top two of an event last Friday evening.
