Final Stats

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Taking an early lead over Tennessee Tech (5-3) on a Stephen Letz (Dyer, Ind./South Suburban College) home run, NIU (4-5) surrendered nine extra base hits in game two of the series to fall to the Golden Eagles, 14-2.

Letz finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a homerun.

"It was a tough day for Huskieball. We have to have a short memory and start preparing for tomorrow right away," said Head Coach Mike Kunigonis. "Yesterday's win put us in a good position to win the series and we will be ready to play tomorrow."

For the second-consecutive game, NIU went on the board first as it scored one run in the top of the first inning. With two outs and facing a 1-0 count, Letz blasted his first homer of the season over the left field fence to put the Huskies on top, 1-0.

The Golden Eagles would answer in the bottom of the third however, responding with seven runs on five hits, three doubles and two home runs, to take a 7-1 advantage. TTU would account for seven more runs through the eighth inning, including four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the eighth inning, Letz struck again with two men down, this time with a runner on second. Wes Sery (Bloomington, Ill./Normal East), who reached base on a pinch-hit walk to lead the frame, would score from second as Letz doubled down the left field line to give the Huskies their second run of the game.

Last season, Tennessee Tech led the nation in homers with 83 four-baggers in 59 games, 15 more than NCAA Super Regional participant Louisiana Lafayette. The Golden Eagles accounted for six doubles and three home runs out of their 14 hits.

NIU and TTU will close the series tomorrow morning at Bush Stadium. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. Central.
