Feb. 9, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Simon Formont from men's tennis and women's basketball senior Amanda Corral.

Week's Achievements: Simon Formont helped the NIU men’s tennis team begin its MAC campaign with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Binghamton on Friday. Formont defeated Sid Hazarika in the No. 1 singles matchup 6-2, 7-5 to earn what proved to be a decisive point for the Huskies. Formont is now 4-2 in singles matches this spring, having cemented the top spot in the lineup.	Week's Achievements: Amanda Corral's career-high 31-point performance on Saturday led the Huskies to one of the biggest comebacks in school history, overcoming a 15-point deficit in the final 8:38 to defeat Akron, 62-56. Corral scored half of NIU's points in the game, dropping an incredible 20 points individually in the second half alone. The senior guard scored the final nine points of the dramatic contest, including the game-tying 3-pointer and go-ahead layup on consecutive possessions before she sealed the victory with four straight made free throws. During NIU's four-game winning streak, Corral is averaging 23.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
