March 16, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees areTony Brandner from the baseball team and Amanda Stepp of gymnastics.

These two Huskies have been nominated to the MAC for the league's Scholar Athlete of the Week award, which NIU student-athletes have won eight times during the 2014-15 season, the second most in the conference.

Week's Achievements: Tony Brandner led the Huskies with a .455 batting average this week on 5-for-11 hitting with three runs batted in, one run scored, a triple and two walks. The junior went 3-for-3 in a 6-4 win at Murray State on Tuesday with two RBIs and a walk. The man behind the plate had a perfect fielding percentage in four games during the week and also caught for NIU's 4-1 win at Purdue on Friday, a game where he went 2-for-4 with a triple, single, run scored and RBI.	Week's Achievements:Amanda Stepp led the NIU gymnastics team to a school record all-around score as the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan, 195.800-195.525. On Senior Day, Stepp stepped up in her three events, posting a score of at least 9.85 in each. She won the floor exercise with a career-best 9.90 and also took first place in the vault with a career-best tying 9.90. Stepp also posted a team-high 9.85 mark in the beam. NIU finished the regular season at 11-4 with a 4-2 record in the MAC.
