Anthony Johnson Named to Academic All-MAC Team

April 22, 2015

CLEVELAND -- Northern Illinois University senior guard Anthony Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young/Purdue) was named to the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Johnson played one season for the Huskies following his transfer from Purdue, averaging 10.8 points, 23rd in the MAC, and 2.1 rebounds per game. The Chicago native shot 43.4 percent from the field in 27 games as a Huskie, including 37.4 percent from three and 70.1 percent from the free-throw line.

A communications major with a 3.20 GPA, Johnson started 25 games this past season for the Huskies, scoring in double figures on 16 occasions. He led NIU with 105 field goals made.

Johnson is NIU's first men's basketball Academic All-MAC honoree since Bryan Hall earned academic honorable mention recognition in 2010-11.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
