FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team bounced back from a Saturday setback with a 5-2 victory at IPFW on Sunday. With the win, the Huskies improved to 15-5 on the season.

"We came to play today," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "After yesterday's close loss, we came out today with the intent on moving past what happened with Ball State and we won convincingly. We also, for the fourth year in a row, have won at least fifteen games which says a lot about our program and how far we have come. It's really a credit to the student-athletes that have come to NIU, they love winning."

NIU opened the day by winning the doubles point to take the early lead. Freshmen Kevin Daun (Vasteras, Sweden/Widenska Gymnasiet Idrottscollege) and Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) were 6-4 winners at number one over Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi. At number three, freshman Louis-Philippe Hamel (Drummondville, Quebec, Canada) and sophomore Carlos Manzanas (Madrid, Spain/IES Principe Felipe) were paired together for the first time and earned a 6-3 win over Connor Andrews and Derek Romer.

In singles play, the Huskies earned four victories, all four coming in straight sets. At number three, Hamel dropped just two games in defeating Carlos do Val, 6-1, 6-1.

Junior Simon Formont (Orléans, France/Lycée Camille Claudel) and Manzanas each dropped just three games in their wins at one and four, respectively. Formont was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Guell while Manzanas recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Daniel Cardenas.

Playing in the singles lineup for the first time since February 14, Daun claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Karl Wangensten-Oye at number six.

NIU will return to action on Thursday, April 11, as the Huskies travel to Detroit for their final non-conference match of the season. The Huskies will face the Detroit Titans at 6 p.m. CT.
