NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: May 11-17

May 18, 2015 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Johnny Zubek of baseball and Alexandria Isom of women's track & field.

These two Huskies have been nominated to the MAC for the conference's weekly Scholar Athlete of the Week award. NIU student-athletes have won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, the second most in the conference.

Week's Achievements:

Johnny Zubek led the Huskies in their final week of the season, going 6-for-13 and reaching base in all four games for a .462 batting average while also posting a .588 on-base percentage. He hit one double and scored four runs for NIU last week, including one run in NIU's crucial 7-3 win over Ball State on Friday.

 Week's Achievements:

Alexandria Isom helped the NIU women's track & field team record its best-ever finish at the MAC Outdoor Championships in fourth place with 107.0 points, running the anchor leg for the gold medal-winning NIU 4x100 meter relay team that took first place in 45.72 seconds. Isom also advanced to the 200-meter dash finals after setting a personal record in her heat with a 24.49-second sprint.
