Week's Achievements:
Taylor Cole scored his first career goal in double overtime to lead the Huskies to a 3-2 victory over Marquette in NIU’s lone game of the week. Cole’s sublime winning goal capped a dramatic comeback victory that saw the Huskies tie the game in the final minute of regulation before Cole’s winner in the 102nd minute. Taking a pass from junior Cody Witkowski, Cole flicked the ball over the head of a defender and hit a left-footed volley back across goal and into the top left corner of the net. The senior defender played all 102 minutes in the contest as the Huskies earned their third consecutive victory. |
Week's Achievements:
Anna Brereton had a stellar defensive weekend for the NIU volleyball team as the Huskies hosted an invitational against Alabama, Western Kentucky and Northern Iowa. The sophomore libero averaged 4.15 digs per set, accumulating 54 total throughout the weekend’s three NIU games. Brereton added 81 total receptions during the tournament to just eight receiving errors – good enough for a .901 receive percentage – and also notched three service aces, three assists and even her fifth career kill. |
