DEKALB, Ill. -- Former members of the Northern Illinois University men’s soccer team are finding success in the professional ranks both in the United States and across Europe, with two former Huskies recently scoring for the first time as pros and two sitting atop their respective league standings.
Isaac Kannah (2011-14) recently signed with Mikkelin Palloilijat in Finland. Kannah appeared in his first match on Aug. 27, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-2 defeat against Jyvasjyla JK. Kannah netted his first career goal in his third appearance with the club, scoring on Sept. 12 against Turun Palloseura; Kannah has appeared in four matches since joining the club, starting all four.
Len Heinson (2014) signed with German club Wuppertaler SV prior to the 2015-16 season, where he has made three appearances. Heinson made his debut with Wuppertaler in a substitute’s role against SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter on Aug. 23 in a 1-1 draw. The former Huskie has started each of Wuppertaler’s last two matches, helping the club to a pair of victories as they currently sit in first-place in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
In Sweden, Andrew Palumbo (2013-14) signed this summer with Vara SK. Palumbo has appeared in seven matches since joining Vara SK.
Domestically, Sean Totsch (2010-13) scored his first professional goal for the Rochester Rhinos on Sept. 19, netting the game-winner four minutes into extra time to give the Rhinos of 3-2 victory over New York Red Bulls II. Totsch and the Rhinos have posted a remarkable 16-1-10 record and have clinched the top-seed in the United Soccer League playoffs. The Rhinos will open the playoffs at home on Oct. 3.
