NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: Jan. 11-17

Jan. 18, 2016 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Austin Eicher of wrestling and Megan Greenfield of gymnastics.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won four times this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Austin Eicher helped the NIU wrestling team pick up two dual wins over the weekend with bonus-point victories as the Huskies pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat SIUE on Saturday before holding off The Citadel on Sunday. Eicher’s dominating 15-3 major decision victory over Dakota Leach kept NIU’s chances of beating SIUE alive on Saturday and his first period pin over The Citadel’s Caleb Smith on Sunday gave the Huskies an 11-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
 Week's Achievements:
Megan Greenfield led the NIU gymnastics team to its first victory of the season on Saturday as the Huskies posted a 192.975-190.375 win over UIC at home in DeKalb. Greenfield finished in the top two overall in the vault and beam, winning the beam with a scoring effort of 9.750 and claiming second on the vault by earning a 9.775 from the judges. The versatile NIU junior also tallied a respectable 9.625 on the floor routine for the Huskies.
