Huskies Travel To Miami, Host Ball State This Week

NIU looks to hold form against two top MAC opponents

DEKALB – The NIU women's soccer team (4-5-2, 3-1 MAC) will head to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (5-5-1, 2-1-1 MAC) on Thursday then will head home to host the Ball State Cardinals (8-2-2, 3-0-1 MAC) on Sunday.
 
The Huskies will return to Ohio to take on Miami after splitting their two games, dropping last Friday's match to Kent State 2-0 and beating Ohio 2-1 last Sunday.
 
In last Sunday's win over Ohio, Taylor Sarver (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) recorded her second two-goal game of the season, notching her fifth and sixth goals of the year in the first half against the Bobcats. Goalkeeper Amy Annala (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) recorded her second double-digit save performance of the season with ten against Ohio on Sunday.
 
Miami is second in the MAC East standings this season with all but two of their games this season being decided by one goal or a draw. Their last two matches went into double-overtime losing to Central Michigan 2-1 and beating Eastern Michigan 3-2.
 
Olivia Winnett leads all Redhawks in points scored (6) and goals (3) in 11 games played and seven starts. Goalie Vic Maniaci has started ten games for Miami, allowing ten goals and making 70 saves for a 0.94 goals against average and a 0.875 save percentage.
 
NIU will return to DeKalb after Thursday's match to host Ball State at the NIU Soccer Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m. for their Kick Out Cancer game. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink and there will be canned food collection at the promotions tent.
 
The Cardinals lead the MAC West with a 3-0-1 record in conference play, beating Buffalo, Akron and Eastern Michigan with their last game against Central Michigan finishing in a 0-0 draw.
 
BSU's Lauren Roll leads the team in points (8) and goals (4) in ten games played and nine starts. Time in net has been split between two keepers, Alyssa Heintschel has started seven games, allowed seven goals and made 28 saves while Tristin Stuteville has started five games, allowed two goals and made 17 saves.
 
The match against Ball State will start a three-game homestand for the Huskies as their next two matches will be Friday, Oct. 14 against Akron and Sunday Oct. 16 against Buffalo.
